Character Development
Ender
Ender Wiggin character develops to the position thatnhe is needed for. When Ender suggests to Dink that "maybe you can be a commander and not be crazy. Maybe knowing about craziness means you don't have to fall for it" (145). Ender's character develops because he is starting to use his intelligence to help the other students with their problems, even though he is only around 8. Also when Ender is saying that "the seed of doubt was there, and it stayed, and every now and then sent out a little root. It changed everything, to have that seed growing. It made Ender listen more carefully to what the people mean, instead of what they said." (147). This proves that Ender's character develops because now he understands that everything said has a meaning behind it. In the end, Ender's character develops throughout the book.
Graff
Graff's character develops throughout out the book. When Graff points out to Major Imbu that he does not "want Ender being comfortable with the end of the world. Our business here is not to be comfortable with the end of the world!"(155). This proves that Graff's character develops because he is worried about the humanity but fears that Ender might be destroyed from the game he plays. Graff also points out to General Pace that Ender has been through the same situation before on Earth, and he will have to deal with it again here. If he can't deal with it here, then what will he do if he is facing his enemy without military police? (239). Graff develops his character because he knows that once Ender is a Commander of a fleet, that he will not have anyone on his side in case of an emergency. Finally, when Graff tells Anderson that in order to have Ender prepared for his future, that "this is something to be decided by people who know what they're doing, not those frightened politicians who got their office because they happen to be politically potent in the country they came from" (135). His developing character is demonstrated in his quote because Graff knows the consequences that he will face if he fails to complete his mission, so he makes sure that he is only dealing with the people that will grantee his success. This is why Graff's character develops in the book.
peter
Peter is also anther character that develops in this book. When Peter does his homework, he does "his learning through his desk at home, tapping into libraries and database, studying and thinking" (159). This proves the development of Peter because he uses his resources to find any secrets hidden from society, and no longer asks the teachers for help. In addition, Peter also could delay any desire he wants and conceal any emotion (160) whenever he needs to. This illustrates that his character develops because he is strong enough to control himself, rather than anyone else. Having the ability to conceal any emotion, he could have the ability to sacrifice anyone for the safety of humanity. Finally, Peter says to his sister Valentine that "The Polemarch is Russian, isn't he? And he knows what's happening with the fleet. Either they've found out the bugger aren't a threat after all, or we're about to have the big battle. One way or another, the bugger war is over. They're getting ready for after the war."(161). This demonstrates that Peter's character develops because he is thinking the same way the Russians do and by using the situation that he came up with, you can easily understand that there is another war after the current one. That is why Peter's character develops in Ender's Game.
